Throwback Friday: Jello Pudding Pops

I. MISS. THESE. I want the real Jello pudding pops. The ones that Bill Cosby used to plug on TV during the 1980s. The ones that came in a box as chocolate, vanilla, and chocolate-vanilla swirl-flavored. Swirl was my favorite: best of both worlds, mixing of two great elements–the idealist in me, I suppose. The real kicker is that I HATE pudding. Weird, I know. So please, don’t console me with any “You can make them at home!” suggestions about making pudding and freezing it–I know you’re trying to help, but it’ll only make me sadder because it won’t have that same non-replicable flavor that only mass-manufacturing by a food conglomerate like Kraft Foods can achieve. I admit that I mostly avoid processed food. That said, Jello pudding pops, you’re sorely missed, and would be a welcome guest in my house any day.

High time for a revival, methinks.

Love it! It’s so funny how some of the those foods just can’t be outdone. I feel the same way about Velveeta mac and cheese from my childhood. I definitely don’t like bricks of Velveeta. I hate Kraft Dinner made from powder but I love that squeezy cheese in a foil pouch on those noodles and no fancy restaurant mac and cheese could ever beat if it that’s what I really want.

I sort of vaguely remember these pudding pops but I used to love the Bill Cosby commercials. He made me want Jell-o Jigglers so badly and yet I hate jello! Magic! Too bad you can’t find the pops anymore! I wonder if they’d taste as good to you now if you did.

I fondly remember those foil packs of Velveeta, and agree that el-cheapo mac & cheese beats fancy mac & cheese 9.999 times out of 10!

You know, Erin…if I found the pops now, I probably wouldn’t trust that they’re the pops of my childhood. You know how companies alter recipes over time…I’d probably fear a change in flavor and it would be a self-fulfilling prophecy! 😎

    I miss the Flintstones Pops.

    Remember those?

Monica… I think you’re making that up. I never heard of that. Maybe we didn’t get it in Canada. 🙂

Do you mean the Flinstone push-ups? I think they still exist and can be found at certain Publix locations, where shopping is a pleasure 😀

You could not be more right, I agree with everything you said. Swirl was definitely the best, regular pudding sucks, these are worth breaking a no processed food rule for. I miss them sooooooo much! :'( When I was probably under 5 (born in ’83), my Grandma always used to have these on hand for anytime her grandkids came over, and we really looked forward to them. Years go by and by and my mind always comes back to these and I check around for them with no luck, hoping that jello or kraft will regain their sanity and end the cruelty of with-holding these! 🙁 BTW tho, I did just find out a brand called Kemp’s makes them, same deal with the chocolate vanilla & swirl 10 in a box. Walmart has them and you can check on they’re website if their sold in your neiborhood (couldn’t find that option on Kemp’s website). Nowhere within 50 miles of my zip, but better luck for you I hope.

Liss, thank you for the heads-up about the Kemp’s pops, I’ll check my local Wal-mart =) I hope they come to their senses too and re-release them–don’t they know how much we loved them, lol?
